JQHN BROWN AND ELIZA MUMAW BROWN:
John Brown married Eliza Mumaw. We have no record of either of their parents. Little is known of John Brown, except that he lost a leg in the Great Civil War.
Aaron Daugherty recalled that when he and his sister Molly attended the one-room-school in Samlples Manor, the John Brown family lived nearby on a farm. Their son, Charles Brown, a feisty red-head also attended that school. (Years later Charles returned to Samples Manor and married pretty little Molly.)
John Brown and Eliza also lived near Millville, Va. Eliza left John and their eight sons, some of whom were grown, some were "farmed out", and one was adopted by a family near Front Royal, Va. Eliza then married a man named "Hebb" and they are buried in Lavale Cemetery near Cumberland, Md. Eliza maintained a relationship with her sons, and her granddaughters recall her visiting her daughter–in–law, Molly Brown Houser.
I (Mary Fink) met John Brown's youngest son, Robert and his wife "Fussy" at my father (Samuel Luther Brown) "Lute's" funeral in 1977. They lived in LaVale at the time. Robert had located some of his brothers and nephews. Robert told of how he had searched for and found his father living alone in Millville, Va. It was a sad reunion for Robert, but the grouchy old-man did acknowledge him as his youngest son.
John Brown and Eliza Mumaw Brown had the following children:
